Customer feedback

Luiz and his crew did an excellent job replacing the back steps at our home. He was super easy to get in touch with and work around our schedule to give an estimate, handled all the permitting and building dept inspections and knew exactly what we were looking for. A+++ and look forward to working with him more for future repair/remodel work!

About Us

At Marques Home Improvement, we don’t start a deck project with a material catalog. We start by standing in your backyard with you and talking about how you actually want to use the space. Where people gather. Where the sun hits. How many sit for dinner. That conversation shapes everything about the design. With years of experience building decks across the South Shore, we specialize in outdoor spaces that are planned around your lifestyle, not pulled from a template. Clear communication, honest pricing, and a crew that stays on your project until the last screw is in.

What Sets Us Apart

We Walk Your Yard With You First

Before measuring anything, we stand in your backyard and ask the right questions. How do you enter the space? Where do people naturally gather? How many usually sit for dinner? Where does the sun hit in the afternoon? Where does water collect after rain? The answers shape the entire design.

Designed for Use, Not Just for Looks

A deck that looks great in a photo but cannot fit a table and chairs properly is a deck that won't get used. We plan furniture placement, traffic flow, grill positioning, stair access, and railing height before picking a single board. The goal is a space that feels natural to use every day.

Full Plan and Price Before Construction Starts

Layout, materials, railing style, stairs, and total cost. All laid out and priced before any work begins. If something needs adjusting, we adjust it on paper, not after the framing is already done.

Same Crew From First Post to Last Screw

No rotating strangers on your property. The crew that starts your deck is the crew that finishes it. You'll always know who's in your yard, what stage the project is in, and when it will be complete.

We Protect Your Property and Clean Up Daily

Landscaping covered. Materials organized. Debris removed at the end of every work day. When we're done, your yard looks better than when we started.

Local Team, Real Accountability

We serve Hanover, Norwell, Hingham, Scituate, Duxbury, Pembroke, and Cohasset. When you call, someone picks up. When something needs attention after the build, we're close enough to handle it quickly.

Is Your Deck Ready?

Our Process

1

Free Backyard Walkthrough

We visit your home and walk your outdoor space with you. We look at how you enter the area, where people naturally sit, how the terrain slopes, where water collects, and how the sun moves through the afternoon. You’ll leave the conversation with a clear picture of what’s possible.

2

Design and Material Selection

Based on the walkthrough, we design a deck around how you actually plan to use it. Furniture placement, traffic flow, grill position, stair access, railing style. We walk you through material options – pressure-treated, composite, and PVC – based on your budget, maintenance tolerance, and how much New England weather the deck will take.

3

Clear Scope, Pricing and Permitting

You receive a detailed proposal with layout, materials, railing, stairs, permits, and total cost all broken down. Every line item visible. Most new decks require a building permit in Massachusetts – we handle drawings, applications, and inspections.

4

Construction

Footings poured to proper frost depth. Ledger board flashed. Joists spaced correctly. Decking fastened with the right hardware for the material. Railings built to code. The same crew handles everything from demolition of the old deck through the final trim piece. You’ll know what’s happening each day.

5

Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished deck with you. Every board inspected. Every railing tested. Every connection reviewed. We don’t consider the project done until you’re satisfied and your yard is left cleaner than we found it.

Deck Services for the South Shore

Custom Deck Build

Designed around your backyard, your lifestyle, and how you actually plan to use the space. Pressure-treated, composite, or PVC options. Permitted, structurally sound, and built to hold up season after season.

Deck Replacement

If your existing deck is past the point of repair, we tear it down and build new. We inspect footings and connections, replace everything that needs replacing, and install a deck built to current code with materials rated for New England weather.

Deck Repair and Restoration

If the frame is solid and the damage is limited to surface boards or railings, a repair often makes more sense than a full rebuild. We assess honestly and only recommend what’s actually needed.

Railing Installation

Wood, composite, cable, aluminum. Built to code with proper structural connections. If your railing wobbles or does not meet current standards, we replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a new deck cost?

Depends on size, material, and design complexity. Most residential decks on the South Shore range from $8,000 to $30,000+. Composite costs more upfront but requires almost no maintenance. Pressure-treated is more affordable but needs regular staining. We break it all down in the estimate.

Depends on your budget and how much maintenance you are willing to do. Pressure-treated is affordable but needs annual care. Composite resists moisture and fading with almost no upkeep. PVC is the most moisture-resistant option available. We explain the trade-offs honestly and help you choose.

Most decks take 1 to 2 weeks. Smaller repairs and railing replacements are often done in 1 to 3 days. We give you a date and we show up on that date.
